We are saddened by our loss of Jerry Opland on June 12, 2013. As a tribute to his life in music we invite your attention to the presentation below. Mr. Opland plays the solo part of the classic Herbert L. Clarke solo “Maid of the Mist” accompanied by the Saint Croix Brass with Jerry Opland and Lance Paulson, cornets, Gary Skundberg, trombone, and Dennis Opland, baritone. Jerry Opland received much of his musical training from his father, Arnold Opland, who directed champion bands out of Bottineau, ND. He also studied under Robert Bruce, an American Indian cornet soloist. He had a rich back ground of performance and performed with The Saint Croix Brass and The Salvation Army Lakewood Corps Band. He was a member of the Sheldon Theatre Brass Band, The Salvation Army Brass Band of the North, and Chatfield Minnesota Brass Band. In the Sheldon Band, he played all the cornet parts over time, Soprano, Solo, Repiano, 2nd, and 3rd.
